U12 Div 2 Football Final
Carnew 4-14 Kilcoole 1-10

Carnew overcame a well fancied Kilcoole side to bring home the cup once again to Carnew. The score does not reflect how close this game was; Kilcoole were a very skilful opposition. At half time confusion set in when the referee had Kilcoole down as leading by four points which was clearly a mistake, but the score stood. Carnew were furious and came out with all guns blazing in the second half and after five minutes had equalised. They pushed on from there and with a panel of 18 players to choose from and top quality substitutes on the bench they knew they had a fighting chance of winning this tournament.

Roland Chelevowich in goals, Brian Kenny, Maurice Sheil, Will Molloy, Cahill Rooney and Thomas Collins stuck to their tasks well and with some great defending in the second half kept Kilcoole to the minimum of 1 point. Richard Greene and Callum Paterson at midfield were lively. Shay Guilfoyle, Shane Byrne who had some great scores, Ben Gilligan and Dan Redmond likewise and Billy Molloy kept the pressure on in the second half to ensure this victory.

The introduction of Brandon Rossiter, Jason House along with Tadgh Kelly was the turning point. Brandon Rossiter closed down the threat from their No. 8 who was wreaking havoc. Jason House strengthened the full back line. A brilliant performance and a great display of true teamwork from the panel and, in a game that was praised as the best game of the day by the organisers, it was all the more sweet to come home victorious. Raurai O’Brien and Jack Keogh were also available and were well capable of filling any position if called upon.

Carnew were well supported by family and friends who travelled to Ballinakill. Cahill Rooney accepted the cup and thanked trainers, mentors and supporters who had helped during the year.
